Metric Type High Day - 23rd March

Metric Type High Day - 23rd March

On 22nd March, a group of us got together and celebrated Metric Type High Day. Type High Day is typically celebrated on September 18th as letterpress printing type height for the English language is 0.918 of an inch. We here in Australia now use metric measurements, so type high is 23.3mm hence 23rd March. It was a super fun day, from everyone helping me shift piles of boxes from the huge flood the week before, to cleaning my guillotines, to Phil Gambrill setting wood type for the Wayzgoose poster, and everyone having a go at pulling prints on proofing presses. There were also mocktails inspired by magenta ink made by James Bryans and cake too (no pies)! Here’s a video of snippets of the day.
